Volunteer roles

There are different ways you can volunteer your time with Hummingbird House.
Find below some available roles and duties examples:

Housekeeping volunteer

  • Create a warm and inviting atmosphere by tidying up used areas
  • Wash and fold linen for our guests
  • Wipe down furniture, including skirting boards and handrails
  • Make up rooms
  • Clean windows, doors, and louvers, both indoors and in pool areas
  • Clean and refill items in basins

Front of house volunteer

  • Greeting people at reception and answering the main phone line
  • Receiving and coordinating deliveries
  • Providing information on the services offered in the house
  • Printing, filing, photocopying, and scanning documents
  • Assisting with stock take
  • Engaging with staff, volunteers, families and others
  • Other administrative tasks as required.

In-house care support

  • Engaging with siblings and guests-in-care as required: Sitting with a child, reading a story, pushing a child in a pram or a wheelchair, nursing a child, playing games with a guest, doing crafts and activities with siblings.
  • Preparing and facilitating activities for children.
  • Undertaking housekeeping duties as needed. For example, when the house is quiet and interaction with guests is not required.

Gardener Volunteer

  • Maintaining all the garden spaces which includes front of house, backyard, guest rooms and accommodation suites.
  • Tasks including garden care including pruning, trimming, replanting, mulching, pest control, weed spraying, removing of rubbish and removal of rubbish.
  • Cleaning the grounds, cleaning paths, raking leaves, collecting fallen mango’s (when in season)
  • Assisting with tidy and reset of the furniture, bikes, and toys in the backyard.
  • Providing positive interactions with guests, siblings, families, staff and visitors.

Kitchen volunteer

  • Wash crockery, cutlery, and kitchen equipment using dishwasher
  • Overseeing mealtimes, including warming and serving meals prepared by our chefs
  • Reset breakfast bar (refill items like coffee, tea, fridge items and condiments)
  • Empty dishwasher and ensure sink area is clean, transfer items to clean trolley
  • Ensure cleanliness of items from dishwasher, addressing stains and food residue
  • Sanitize serving bench
  • Clean oven
