Traffic QLD - In memory of Caleb
After Leonie’s grandson Caleb passed, Hummingbird House gave her family precious time to say goodbye. Now, on his anniversary, her workplace raises funds in his name.
In 2022, Traffic QLD employee Leonie became a bereaved grandma, a title no one wants to have. Leonie’s daughter and family came to Hummingbird House to create precious memories with their newborn son, Caleb.
The family received incredible support from the staff, especially the family support team, who guided them through Caleb’s end-of-life care and the moments after his passing.
Leonie is forever grateful to Hummingbird House for giving them extra time with Caleb and never rushing them to say goodbye.
Leonie then approached her employer, the Traffic QLD, to help fundraise in memory of her beautiful grandson. Each year, on Caleb’s anniversary, all branches participate in a morning tea where staff can reflect on the time spent with loved ones and contribute to Hummingbird House.
I am truly grateful our daughter chose life for Caleb, which wasn’t easy as she had to have a C-section. Waiting for Caleb’s arrival with his parents were his three siblings and both sets of grandparents, and we had the opportunity to love on him for 4 ½ hours. Grief is the price we pay for love.
To date, the Traffic QLD’ annual morning teas have raised $1,830.55 for Hummingbird House.
