Hiroshi’s hair chop
Hiroshi grew his hair for a year with a plan—donate his locks and raise funds for Hummingbird House. One braid at a time, he made it count, raising over $2,000 and plenty of smiles along the way.
Hiroshi is a personal care worker, and always goes the extra mile. Over a 12 month period, his co-workers watched Hiroshi's hair grow, and grow, and grow, and then they learnt why, when he announced he'd be chopping it all off and donating it to Ella Wigmakers and fundraising for Hummingbird House.
I feel very lucky to have healthy hair and I thought it would be nice to donate to people in need like my mum and friend have donated theirs!!
With help from the Hummingbird House Fundraising Team, Hiroshi set up an online fundraising page and shared it with his network.
On the big day, he auctioned off his locks, one braid at a time. Friends were lining up to have a go.
“Thank you everyone who supported my chop. I really appreciate your donations and support!! I’ve sent my hair this morning. It was about 150g."
Hiroshi’s online page raised $2,265 for Hummingbird House and he sure can rock his new look.
“Truly one of the kindest people I've met. Gonna miss your luscious hair but it's for a good cause. Great work Hiroshi!” an online message from one of Hiroshi’s donors."
