What is the NDIS?
The NDIS is all about your choice, your way. It’s a Federal Government initiative that changes the way your child, living with a disability, can receive support services and funding that empowers them to live the life you and they choose. The new scheme means funding will go to you, the parent, and you can use a Registered NDIS Service, like Hummingbird House to create an individualised plan to meet your needs. Hummingbird House is operated by approved service provider Wesley Mission Queensland.
Who can access the NDIS?
Your child is eligible for the NDIS if they:
- have a permanent disability that significantly affects their ability to participate in everyday activities
- are an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen who is a Protected Special Category Visa holder.
Or, if they meet the early intervention requirements:
- your child is 6 years of age or under and has a developmental delay and
- your child has a disability that is likely to be permanent or early supports would reduce how much help your child need to do things in the future.
For further information on eligibility visit the NDIS Access checklist.
If you currently receive disability services you will be contacted by the National Disability Insurance Agency before your geographical area transitions.
If you are not currently receiving disability services you may still be eligible for the NDIS. Contact our friendly team on 1300 541 637 to find out more.
